Are You Smarter Than a Harvard Senior?

More than 14,000 college students recently took a "Civil Literacy" test sponsored by the Intercollegiate Studies Institute. According to ISI, students didn't do so well. The average college freshman got about 50% of the questions right. Seniors did only a bit better, averging 54% on the quiz. Harvard seniors were the nation's best, averaging 69% on the survey. Can you do better? Take the quiz at the link below and find out! Did you do better than the average freshman? Better than the average senior? Better than the average Harvard student? Better than Harry the talking hand? (Harry got 58/60 right, as did Professor Jon Schaff). What do you think of the quiz? Is this stuff students should really know, or does it seem like trivial pursuit?

50/60 — Harry's got me. I second-guessed myself on 9, 19, 32, 34 and was entirely wrong on 33, 35, 36, 53, 58, and 60.

...Still, I've got thirteen percent on those 'Harvard seniors;' I'm satisfied with that.

...my third comment; there's some short circuit between brain, eyes, and fingers. I meant fourteen percent.

I am not smarter than a Harvard Senior. I didn't do so hot. didn't read close enough on some of the questions.

That test was hard because they ask all sorts of questions from Junior high to now man I was lost. I got 21 out of 60, can you say horriable!!!! I really need to get into my American social studies more often. see you later.....

The test was hard, and actually made you think, but it really gave myself a look at where I stood as far as knowing my history! It brought back a few things learned from high school that I may have thought I forgot, but in return did remember!

That test brought back many things from high school that i should have know but forgot. I scored a 35%, not too impressive.

You answered 53 out of 60 correctly — 88.33 %
Only seven wrong, not to terribly bad...

So I didn't do as hot as I thought I would. I figured that I would do a little better than the average freshman, but instead I found myself in that range. I thought that the quiz was extremely interesting and I also felt that I should have know the answers to more of them. Only a couple of questions I felt that I had no clue but as for the rest I remember learning about them. Maybe next time I'll do better.

40%...not better than a college freshman. It was pretty fun to try and remember all the old facts that you went over in grade school...I guess I'm not History Major material =) Should have paid more attention...

The test was hard, on some of the questions I had no clue. Used a dictionary that helped some with info. about Presidents and some of the documents. Wouldn't have done as well without it.

I agree with many of the other comments. I guess I don't know my history as well as I should. 50%
