Please note what you learned from Kitty Werthmann's presentation. How does she compare/contrast living under the Nazis with living under the Communists? What did you find most interesting in her presentation? Most worth remembering? Note especially any details you might include in an essay on the disturbing nature of the totalitarian governments of the 20th century.

I thought Kitty's experience was intersting. It sounded like she was very disturbed by everything she went through. I learned that the government set up schools to almost brainwash the kids. She didn't really go into what it was like under communism expept that the government was still very controling. I found that her experiences with the actual war was the most interesting part of the presentation. I would include how the food was rationed and how anyone could be an informant.

The storys she told us today shows again that cruelty and the eagerness for power were unlimited back in this dark times of history. I think it is really important and respectable that Kitty talks about her experiences all around the country.
I again realized the fact that whatever somebody tell you about anything, you should just put into question and do not believe it right away without consult other sources.

I thought that Kitty did an amazing job describing the things that she went through. I liked how she related things that happened there to our government here and how we could end up in that same problem.
I also liked how she told us about how they the people voted hitler in by 98 percent of the vote...i didnt know that, i also didnt knwo that the people didnt knwo about the concentration camps i would imagine that they would notice that the jews were being shipped out!
It was a worth while speech to go to....very enjoyable!West Civ. 11:00

I thought Kitty Werthmann's presentation was very interesting. She mentioned a lot of things we've been going over in class and how they affected the people of Austria, such as socialism and how it hurt Austria's economy.I think the most interesting point Kitty made was about the indoctrination of the youth -- I didn't know that Hitler gave kids free, very expensive "toys" to basically bribe them into loyalty. Kitty even said that when boys in Austria turned sixteen, they received a free motorcycle from the government! One of the topic most worth remembering was euthanasia. Under Hitler's rule, those who weren't "worthy" were simply eliminated. Hitler wouldn't even let Austrians have children unless both parents were pure Aryan!

I was very excited to hear Kitty's story, and i felt that the most interesting to hear was at how good of a politician Hitler was, and how much support he actually had when he took over Austria. He appealed to the right kind of people and he opposed Communism and seemed to have alot of support just because he opposed communism, it was crazy about how she became one of the brainwashed kids but how she was forced out of it and somewhat saw the light and realized what Hitler was really doing. I however did not like how she told us not to watch cnn, however and is saying that with us having legal abortion is like hitler having selective abortion and forced people to get them i think our choice is what separates it but thats neither here nor there. I would include about how it is a gradual takeover and how the steps they take is to take out religion and the influential people and then slowly gain control that way by appealing to the immedaite needs of the people.

Listening to Kitty's speech was difficult at times because of the way she described her experiences. I thought she did a good job of putting everything into perspective and warning us against how the same thing could happen in America. My favorite part was when she told us about how she came to America and wanted to register with the government, and they didn't care if she was here. It was overwhelming to hear about how she had come from a country where travel was restricted at time, and then she came here to the U.S. and could go wherever she wanted. The most disturbing part for me was the National Youth Day, when they took children into the gym of their school and bascially brainwashed them. It was amazing to hear all this from someone who survived this time period and is still alive today.

One of the most interesting things that I learned while listening to Kitty speak was that in general alot of the things that she had to face and experience in Germany are showing up in the present day.The fact that she had to face all of these hardships at such a young age has made her a very strong and opinionated individual. She mentioned alot of the things that we had been talking about in class like how the dicatorship was what the people of Germany wanted and how it came along very slowly. Going to this talk just help put everything into a little better perspective.

It was scary to me that such small steps in the wrong direction can change a whole society. She made points that would make people look at their whole society in a different light and be more cautious of what they listen to. The most disturbing part of her whole presintation was when she was talking about Euthanasia. To think that a government could do that to their own people just because they are mentally different was deeply saddening. She was very interesting to listen to. It gave a more in depth look into what we were learning in class and it helped to attend her presentation.
